On 12th April at Moccas Court we held our handover dinner where I took over the mantle of Hereford Round Table Chairman from our previous Chairman Jason Hicks. May I take this opportunity to thank Jason for all his hard work and for an entertaining year! On 25th February next year I will have been in Table for ten years and I have never seen so much charitable giving as I saw this last year. We have been inundated for requests and this has been a combination of fantastic PR with our media guru Luke Conod and the endless work from Will Jackson as the outgoing community liaison officer.
I regard it as a privilege and honour to be head of the local arm of this fantastic and progressive national and international society of Round Table. With any position there comes responsibility and as I write this brief prologue for the year ahead I am only too aware that our annual charity summer ball is only 27 days away. It is a stressful time selling tickets for an event for 300 – 350 people and providing entertainment and auction items however it will all be worth it on the night!
The theme and entertainment for the ball will be ‘Best of British’ and this will be brought home to the guests right from the off when they will walk through a guard of honour of six minis divided by a long red carpet. Upon arrival they will also notice the presence of Her Majesty’s British Army – details only to be announced on the night! After free drinks guests will enjoy a sumptuous three course meal from local chefs (Sister’s Caterers) who will be serving sirloin of beef brought to us by my neighbour and butcher Neil Powell. Once the meal is finished we will then have a charity auction followed by an amazing 11 piece band (www.johnoliverlive.com). There will also be an opportunity to try and win a Mini that will be on show on a plinth inside the three tiered fully lined and decorated marquee.
Aside from the ball we are running two other major fund raising events. The first is our fantastic fireworks display on 2nd November which is to be held at the race course in Hereford. The second fund raiser is a gigantic raffle where we will give away a brand new mini! We have partnered with Cotswold Mini www.cotswoldmini.co.uk and you will see us out and about in Herefordshire selling £5.00 raffle tickets. Please buy one either on line or at one of our events.
Although Table engages in charitable and philanthropic activities it is also about a group of friends who meet regularly and have a great time. We meet every other Monday where we could be doing literally anything. The events are limited only by imagination, budget and numbers! If you are between 18 and 45 and want to join please get in touch.
