2015 – 2016 Chairman’s Message

This year’s Handover Dinner was held on the 24th April at The Left Bank, in Hereford alongside the beautiful River Wye. Gavin Williams, the outgoing Chairman, organised a great event where we saw all the regular faces and, happy to say, some new faces that we welcome to the Round Table for 2015.  I am honoured to take over the mantle of Hereford Round Table Chairman from Gav and would like to thank him not only for making the last year fun and full of friendship but also in doing a spectacular job steering the Round Table towards its amazing fundraising targets. I have asked Andy Banks to join me this year in being my Vice Chair, after a great year as secretary and thankfully he has accepted.

Since joining the Round Table I have found that it really is an organisation that thrives on the more you put in, the more it gives you back. I would encourage the men of Herefordshire of like mind to join our fold and enjoy the feeling of giving back to our county, whist forging great friendships and having fun.

Although the role of Chairman is a daunting one is many respects, it does mean that I can build on the great work done in previous years and organise some new events for this coming year. Last year was the first year in my time with the Round Table where we went international, ‘Boys on Tour’. We were supported again by Cotswold Mini, given a fleet of 6 minis, gained sponsorships from many Herefordshire businesses and were released on a unsuspecting Europe ! Our task was to visit 7 of our French counterparts, ‘Table Rond Francais’, raise money and have fun. Mission successful, we raised £6,000. This year we have decided to head back over the channel to the Netherlands and Belgium with a fleet of assorted cars, raise more money and bridge friendships to more international Round Tables.

One of the biggest events in the Round Table calendar is the Summer Ball. This year the theme will be ‘The Best of Herefordshire’ and all that it encompasses. Great Food, great drink and great entertainment all sourced from our county. I look forward to organising a great event and seeing as many of you there to support the many worthwhile charities and individuals that apply for funding this year.

We shall be going to Ireland on the Outgoing Chairs Weekend, Dragon boating, go-karting, tours around local businesses, kayaking, murder mystery evening and the ever competitive Golfing Cup. Many more activities will be squeezed into the schedule, we shall be busy.

Round Table has enhanced my life over the past few years more than I can say, I have enjoyed the challenges it has thrown me and the friendships I have cemented. I hope that there are others out there that will join me and the great men of the Hereford Round Table to make 2015 an exceptional year.
